Do trees dream? What kind a forest do the lonely trees in the city dream of?

SANATORIUM will host the exhibition entitled ’LONELY TREES’ featuring the new installation of Sinan Bökesoy from January 25 to February 24, 2019.

The installation work includes the transformation of urban sound recordings captured around selected ’lonely trees’ in Istanbul, New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Genoa and Athens into a utopian forest in the gallery space. The sound installation exemplifies the real time process of dreaming a forest by interlinking the common sonic memories of these lonely trees. The representative sound sculpture of each tree in the gallery space will convey the meaning of reaching a synthetic forest while transmitting the human made ecological and vital trauma that these trees are facing.  It also has a critical and distopian approach to Nazım Hikmet’s verse “To live like a tree alone and free, to live like a forest in brotherhood/sisterhood...” that has inspired Sinan Bökesoy’s app project entitled “Nazım’s Forest” as published in 2018.  Can we, as individuals really constitute a society in the system that we have created so far, and how can we imagine a society as an individual in such an artificiality?
